the torch of wisdom

What is Ayurveda?

Here are some simple principals:

balance is a concept of always growing, recalibrating and rebalancing the different elemental forces within the body.

From india, Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge.  Ayurveda is often described as  the wisdom of life  and is a vast  body of knowledge addressing all aspects of human health and healing.  Over 5000 years old, many consider Ayurveda to be an origin of healing systems.  Ayurveda is first mentioned in the ancient texts known as the Vedas.   The Vedas are recognized by scholars throughout world as one of the oldest spiritual texts in existence.  by treating the whole person, not just the symptom, balance is restored, while recognizing that disease exists when there is an imbalance in a person’s life.   It’s about preventing illness.

In Hawaii,  there exists an awareness of ancient hawaiian rejuvenation practices found in massage and breathing called Lomi Lomi and the Ha. Over a millenia, these two practices from hawaii and india are woven of the same thread, and complement each other.  By understanding the elemental compositions of the body and applying simple, fresh hawaiian herbs, breathing practices, and cleansing, balance is restored.

Life force= Mana= Prana= chi

The 3 Doshas- or life forces within the body are made up of the 5 elements found in nature. from ether and air comes vata; from fire and water comes pitta; and from water and earth comes kapha. as mobile and active elements within the body, they are in a state of changing balance at all times and different parts of the body have different doshic qualities. when out of balance these doshas are the cause of disease and decay.

These doshas also relate to a persons primary body constitution.

Vata   is cold, light, mobile, subtle, hard, rough, changeable and clear.

Pitta   is  hot, light, fluid, subtle, sharp, malodorous, soft and clear

Kapha

when we start to understand the body in terms of our own personal rebalancing, we can start to use the insight of the body to navigate health by finding the balance between the aspects of the doshas. like tuning an instument

all channels are open as if small waterfalls and rivers are flowing within. We begin working with our nervous system and feeling the subtle and small.

using all the senses we gain health and balance. by listening to nature.  the 4 directions, where the sun rises and sets. to the animals and plants

us ancestral conections, colors, sound healing, using hands and feet  movement

Restore Balance

Meditation improves the healing process by calming the mind, letting the nervous system relax and letting the subtle awareness come to resurface

when creating we heal. the messeges of the self come in different forms. poetry, drawings reveal.  and capture the messages of life and love, drawing us closer to what we are here for. remembering. like making a mural or mosaic of gold, putting it all together.
